How long is a California real estate license valid for?
A California real estate salesperson or broker license is valid for 4 years from the date it's issued, per the DRE.
How many continuing education hours do I need to renew my CA real estate license?
You need 45 total clock hours of DRE-approved continuing education: 15 hours across five mandatory 3-hour courses (Ethics, Agency, Trust Fund Handling, Risk Management, Fair Housing), a 2-hour Implicit Bias course, a minimum of 18 hours of Consumer Protection, and the remaining hours as Consumer Service or additional Consumer Protection.
What happens if I miss my CA real estate license renewal deadline?
If your license expires before you renew, you can't legally practice real estate or earn commission until it's reinstated. Check the DRE's site directly for reinstatement rules if this happens to you.
